Restaurant Name: Cockteleria Picus
Picus is located along the West side (Bay side) of the island. Every time I've been here there is a 1/2 tourist, 1/2 local ratio...very good sign.
The atmosphere is very inviting - right on the beach...open-air, sand floor. Most of the tables are under a huge tent looking out over the bay. The rest of the tables are located closer to the water with umbrellas to provide shade. Regardless of where you sit, the waves of the bay are right there, with several fishing boats bobbing up and down a few feet away on the beach. It doesn't get much better than this!
Service can seem slow to some, but you should be on "Mexican time" by now...let yourself relax and enjoy your time here! This is not just true of Picus, but any service in Mexico. Everything happens at a much more relaxed pace. I've never felt neglected here...again, just sit back and enjoy!
Favorite Dish: The food is great and the proportions huge! The first time we came here, we ordered nachos with guacamole for appetizers. Little did we know that these would be full meals alone (see picture). Both were fantastic. My boyfriend's favorite is the Natural Shrimp - huge shrimp cleaned very well. My favorite is any special grilled fish with garlic they have available at the time. As fresh as it gets.
During our first trip here, as we were making our way to our hotel, we watched two men carrying a huge grouper - one end of the stick balanced on each of their shoulders, with the fish hanging in the middle (it seemed to be about 1/2 my height - I'm 5'10"), walk into the restaurant. We knew we would be paying this place a visit before we left!
FYI: I am not a big Ceviche fan, but I have heard from several others that it is to die for (at about US $7)!
