Getting TO/AROUND: With the rapid development of the Oilsands, there's a lot of heavy truck traffic to and from Ft. Mac. day and night....and some of the loads are gigantic, taking up both lanes of the highway. These moves are very well supervised and have many pilot cars and trucks directing traffic, lifting power lines. Some of the biggest loads have been in the 500-850 ton range and take anywhere from 5-10 days to move from Edmonton to the final site. There have been as many as seven tractors combined pulling and pushing the huge loads. Most of the biggest loads are moved in winter when the roads are frozen solid. Here's a link to some high resolution images in my pbase Gallery of the big rigs: Big rigs on the way to Fort McMurrayHere's a link to a video I shot of it as it moved through Two Hills, Alberta: Big Rig Video

It's a 500 km trip from here near Edmonton. | MrBill Tue Jan 25, 2005 12:12 UTC Excellent pages. I am trading oil & gas futures & options and was born in Edmonton, AB. I agree the tar sands are extremely interesting and important. What about hydrogen though? Bill | Geoff_Wright Tue Dec 21, 2004 13:57 UTC Shouldn't like to hand pump the tyres, Darbs, hahahaha! |
